Strings Attatched

Gift giving is a simple ability that is undeniably changed from culture to culture. I have heard a lot of people use the term "Indian Giving" which is terrible. I don't think it is used in the right context, for one Native Americans don't give you something and then take it back, it's more of a matter of they expect a gift in return, as do most cultures. Gift giving is also changed from social status to social status as well, it seems to no longer be about what a person is receiving, or a meaning behind the gift, but more along the lines of the value of the gift. Growing up it always seemed like a competition after Christmas time in school, friends boasting over who received the most expensive gifts. In the rat race, we've lost the true meaning.
