The Adaptive Value...

While reading this article I kept being reminded of fraternities and sororities with all of their rituals and rules. At the end of the article they were mentioned briefly. It seems to me though that joining a secular group is more of a matter of elitism than needing to belong than anything else. With religion the article addresses people's need for community but it doesn't mention anything about individuals joining religion and believing in it from a need for meaning in their life a part from others, which I think is an important aspect for the strength of the group as a whole.
