STRINGS ATTACHED

Gift giving differs greatly from culture to culture, most of the time in our culture we give gifts to poeple we like,or to show appreciation. It is widely percieved that when you give a gift you generally expect something in return. That is not the case in my opinion. I think that when you give someone a gift it is an act of kindness and it should not be expected that you should recieve a gift in return for being kind. However in our society poeple often give gifts expecting to recieve one as well.This is not the way it should be, if that were the case I would have to by everyone that attends my birthday gatering a gift. May expect a gift from my mom on mothers day for being her son. Somewhere in time gift giving among our society has become extremely superficial. Price, prestige, popularity or social status often play a major part in the way we go about it. Gift giving at one time use to be a noble gesture, now it seems like a contest of wealth,popularity,and social status.
