"To give up on Words"
You can learn a lot from someone by just watching their movements, and their style. I found it really interesting that during "courtships" the young Apache didn't speak to each other, until they were comfortable, which could last a long period of time- even several months! For a young female talking right away could mean you had been sexually active with many boys before, so the young women are told to remain silent, unless they knew exactly what to say. In our culture people can't wait to talk about themselves, listening isn't even an option anymore, instead you find the other person just waiting for their turn to keep up the conversation. I don't think it is that the Apache is "giving up on words" it's just that they still listen, something our culture has given up a long while ago.
