The Subculture of Tricking
As would never have picked this article to read myself but it did fit nicely with chapter two out of Culture Counts. I enjoyed how the author described the tricking world as if was separate from ours. She did not try to justify what these women did or why they did. She elaborated on how she gained access to their world and their way of life. Only when she talks brief about AIDS or the abuse the women receive are you reminded that this is a world, a subculture that goes on right around us ever day. She shows great cultural relativism but not judging these women and even removing herself from the situation when needed. The topic alone presses the reader to uses cultural relativism.
